Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, Milan

Gasparoli

The Church of San Francesco di Paola, located in the centre of Milan between Via Manzoni and Via Montenapoleone, was built for the Minims Fathers by the Roman architect Marco Bianchi on the site of an earlier oratory dedicated to Anastasia of Sirmium, which was destroyed by fire in 1693. An example of late Baroque architecture with echoes of the style of Francesco Borromini, the church features a dynamic concave–convex façade, completed by Emilio Alemagna in 1891. The plan consists of a single nave with side chapels and is characterized by sinuous lines. Inside, there are altars made of precious marbles and bronzes, and on the vault a fresco by Carlo Maria Giudici depicting the Glory of Francis of Paola.
