Church of S. Maria Maddalena di Camuzzago, Bellusco

Gasparoli

The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, together with the adjacent rural buildings (currently involved in a complex redevelopment project), formed a settlement whose origins probably date back to the Roman period. A convent of the friars of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre was founded here. During the Middle Ages the convent enjoyed considerable fame, becoming one of the most flourishing religious institutions in the region. The church houses a vast cycle of frescoes depicting the life of Mary Magdalene, as well as an altarpiece representing the Deposition in the Sepulchre. Both works are by Bernardino Butinone (Treviglio, c.1450 – c.1507). He was a pupil of Vincenzo Foppa, a teacher of Bramantino, and collaborated with Bernardo Zenale
