Palazzo Meroni, Milan

Gasparoli

Palazzo Meroni is a monumental building located between Corso Italia and Corso di Porta Romana, which features a pleasing combination of Art Nouveau and Rococo styles. Construction began in 1914 and was completed in 1924 based on a design by surveyor Cesare Penati. The building at number 3 Corso Italia, built later in 1926, was designed by architect Carlo Tenca. The façade overlooking Piazza Missori is characterised by pilasters ending in festoons, with a domed roof and two languid male figures on the ogives of the balcony. It is surmounted by a small segmented dome covered with fibrous scales, in which portholes open instead of windows. The portholes are also found on the attics, where they are surrounded by cherubs. Also noteworthy is the iron parapet of the staircase, designed by Alessandro Mazzucotelli.
